Colorado!

The Unified Sounders took on the Unified Rapids in an 11 v 11 match in Colorado. 
The match ended in a draw. 

Congratulations Bryce, Cashel, Tim, Hannah and Clifford! 

It looks like you had a fabulous time representing Bellingham for us!

Unified Soccer heads to Colorado

Exciting news for some of our Unified Soccer participants!

The following people are headed on a fun adventure to Denver, Colorado on October 4-6th:

Hannah Jacobus

Tim Davenport

Cashel Vincent

Clifford Green

They have volunteered to represent the Unified Sounders on an 11 versus 11 team that will take on the Colorado Rapids Unified team in a match at Dicks Sporting Goods Park.

During the trip, they will have the opportunity to attend an Avalanche NHL game as well as the Sounders/Rapids MLS match.

We look forward to hearing how their trip goes. Great things continue to happen in the world of Unified Soccer! Stay tuned.

BHS headed to National Games

Congratulations to the Bellingham High School Unified Soccer team and their coach Mark Wright.

Mark and I have the honor of escorting the BHS team to the Special Olympics National Games June 2014 in Princeton, New Jersey.

***Due to their 1st place finish in Division 1, BHS has the opportunity to apply to attend the National Games in Princeton, New Jersey during the Summer of 2014.  We are 1 of only 3 teams that are eligible to apply for an all-expenses paid trip to compete on the National Level.  We should hear back this Summer whether the adventure will continue. :)

It seems strange to just report the final results and not be able to fully represent the joy, spirit, intensity, emotions and life-changing experiences that accompany participating in the Special Olympics State Tournament. Hopefully, the pictures capture some of those moments. It is an experience so hard to put into words, but with each year I attend, I am more and more humbled by how it can touch lives.  Thank you to all those who participated and I look forward to catching you on the field next year!

You can follow the Olympic Torch Run as the Flame of Hope makes its way from all over the State to the Opening Ceremonies at Joint Base Lewis McChord!  Whatcom County passed off to Skagit County earlier today.

I never ceased to be amazed at the magnitude of energy and support that is happening for Special Olympics.  Thank you to all the Law Enforcement Officers who make this Torch Run possible.

As of this evening, each team has had the opportunity to play every other team once during league play and has also played in a tournament.  My favorite thing to watch on the field right now is the way in which teams are truly representing the spirit of Unified Sports. Teams are learning how to bring out the best in all of their players by balancing inclusion and competition. Whether athlete or partner, it takes every player to pass, score and defend their goal in order to exemplify the true competition of Unified Sports.
